5 Tips for Training Success

5 Tips for Training Success

For 6 months last year I was part of a beta-testing group for a new program by Dean Somerset called High Tensile Strength. It will be released later this year and even has its own teaser. How cool is that! It’s like an invitation to star in your own action film! I signed up for several reasons; for something different, for someone else to write my programs, for motivation, for accountability, to learn new things… and of course to get results. Here’s a before and after photo.... continue
What I Believe

What I Believe

In the time I’ve been a personal trainer I’ve gone from feeling like I know everything, to knowing nothing, over and over. The more I learnt, the more I realised I didn’t know and at times it seemed overwhelming. How could I possibly train anyone without having degrees in physiotherapy, biomechanics and psychology? But the more time I spent training people, the more perspective it gave me on what was important and what wasn’t, and I started to develop a philosophy. Once I realised what... continue
100 Snatches in 5 Minutes. Check.

100 Snatches in 5 Minutes. Check.

Back in October I set myself a goal of being able to do 100 snatches in 5 minutes with a 24kg kettlebell. Well today I did it. 100 snatches in 5 minutes? Hmmm, don’t mind if I do. And now I’ve mastered that I can go on... continue
Do You Service Yourself?

Do You Service Yourself?

And when I ask “do you service yourself?”, I obviously mean “are you performing maintenance on yourself?”. But I know what you were thinking. Shame on you! I’ve recently begun screening clients using the Functional Movement Screen. It’s a way to discover any dysfunction in your movement patterns. Based on the results we can recommend corrective exercises. But why do you have to wait for me?  If you know you can’t touch your toes, then what are you doing about it? Can you touch your hands behind... continue
End of Summer

End of Summer

Time for 1 more outdoor boot camp… Summer has officially ended. It’s beginning to get darker in the mornings, and I’ve seen a few people clutching towels around themselves before we begin our warmup. Maybe I need to get some Adapt Fitness Snuggies made up. Hey, if Weezer can do it then why can’t we? Don’t try and tell me you wouldn’t wear a snuggie to boot camp!     There’s going to be one more outdoor boot camp before moving indoors. It begins March 11 and runs... continue
Don't Worry, Be Happy

Don’t Worry, Be Happy

Sometimes we focus so much on what we want to achieve, we become blind to what we have achieved. Goals change and we’re never going to be perfect, so instead of delaying your happiness for that “perfect day“, learn to enjoy today. continue
